Agiolax is indicated for short-term use in cases of occasional constipation.
Active substances: Seeds and mucilage of Ispaghula and fruits of Cassia angustifolia.
The fiber and mucilage of the seeds and tegument and adjacent skins of Plantago ovata restore normal transit conditions in the large intestine, acting as agents to expand the fecal volume. They reduce colonic transit time by physically stimulating the intestinal wall, binding to fluids and increasing the volume of intestinal contents. They also increase fecal weight and fecal water content, retaining water and increasing fecal bacterial mass. 1,8-dihydroxyanthracene derivatives have a laxative effect.
Posology and method of administration:
Adolescents over 12 years of age, adults and seniors: One or two teaspoons/sachet of granules once a day (equivalent to 5 to 10 g). The correct individual dose is the smallest one needed to produce soft but formed stools for comfortable defecation. Children under the age of 12: Not recommended. Ispaghula mucilage, Ispaghula seeds and Cassia angustifolia fruits should not be taken for a period longer than 1 week. Ispaghula mucilage, Ispaghula seeds and Cassia angustifolia fruits should be swallowed without chewing and with plenty of fluid (approximately 1/4 of a L), preferably at night, but not immediately before bedtime. An interval of half to an hour should be allowed before taking other medicines. Read the package leaflet carefully and if in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
