Poxantel 60 tablets

The veterinary medicine is indicated for the prevention and treatment of infestations caused by gastrointestinal parasites, particularly against the following:

Cestodes: Echinococcus granulosus, Dipylidium caninum, Tenia psiformis, Tenia hydatigena, Tenia ovis.

Tricuridiums: Trichuris ovis

Ascarids: Toxocara canis, Toxocara leonina

Hookworms: Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense, Uncinaria stenocephala.

Active substances: Pirantel, Oxantel and Praziquantel.

The veterinary medicinal product is a combination of three anthelmintics:

- Pirantel Embonate is a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative that acts by paralyzing the parasite's cholinergic receptors, simulating an excess of acetylcholone. The anthelmintic activity is exerted against hookworms and ascarids, but not against tricuris and cestodes.

- Oxantel Embonate is an analogue of the pirantel meta-phenolide and reflects its pharmacological properties. Oxantel has a high activity against tricuris.

- Praziquantel is a derivative of a pyrazine isoquinoline, active against any stage of evolution of cestodes in dogs and cats. It acts on carbohydrate metabolism and increases the permeability of the parasite's cell membranes, causing the loss of intracellular calcium. This way the parasite is paralyzed, being exposed to the action of phagocytes and digestive enzymes.

Posology and route of administration:

Oral administration.

The recommended dosage is one tablet orally for every 10 kg of body weight, (corresponds to 5 mg of pyrantel and 20 mg of oxantel per kg of body weight), in a single administration. A single administration is sufficient.

It is not necessary to keep the dog fasting or to follow a special diet. In the case of subjects who are difficult to treat, the veterinary medicinal product can be mixed with food.

In order to eliminate any parasites in the larval animal at the time of treatment, it is recommended to repeat the treatment after 20 days.
