Pilucat is indicated for cats in the following situations:

  • Heat prevention;
  • Interruption of lactation due to pseudo-pregnancy;
  • Treatment of pseudo-pregnancy;
  • Treatment of satiriasis in males;
  • Treatment of eosinophilic granuloma and feline miliary dermatitis with or without alopecia or pruritus.

Active substance: 5 mg of megestrol acetate

Megestrol acetate shares the same pharmacological activities as other progestants: alteration of secretory capacity at the level of the endometrium, increase in basal body temperature and inhibition of the pituitary.

In animals, megestrol acetate inhibits ovulation, having an antigonadotrophic, antiuterotrophic and antiandrogenic / antimyotrophic effect. It has a slight glucocorticoid activity devoid of anti-inflammatory, anabolic and androgenic properties and a very slight mineralocorticoid activity.

The effect of megestrol acetate, as an estrus inhibiting agent, is due to a suppression of follicle development that is obtained by limiting the pituitary of the hypothalamus, leading to a suppression of FSH.

Posology and route of administration:

Oral administration, according to the dosing schedule described below.

Heat prevention: Administer 1 tablet every 15 days, in the antrum and for the desired period. Alternatively, at the first signs of heat, in the proestrus, administer 1 tablet for 3 days and then 1 tablet every 15 days for the desired time. Ideally, treatment should be started at the anesthetic.

Treatment of lactation following pseudo-pregnancy, treatment of pseudo-pregnancy and treatment of satiriasis in males: Administer the veterinary medicinal product for 8 days at a daily dose of 2 mg / kg, ie:

  • 2 tablets a day, for animals (cats or cats) weighing less than 5 kg,
  • 4 tablets per day, for animals (cats or cats) with 5 to 10 kg.

Eosinophilic granuloma and miliary dermatitis: Administer 1 tablet every 2 days for the first 3 weeks, then 1 tablet every 3 days for the next 3 weeks and finally 1 tablet per week for the last 3 weeks. If necessary, administer 1 tablet per week for maintenance treatment.

The tablets have flavor and are well accepted by cats, and can be administered directly into the cat's mouth or, if necessary, added to the food.
