Veterinary medicine indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism in dogs.

L-thyroxine is identical in structure and mechanism of action to physiologically secreted thyroxine (T4) and present in mammals with a functionally normal thyroid gland. Thyroxine is metabolised mainly to triiodothyronine (T3). T4 and T3 have several biological effects throughout the body. They are essential for the regulation of basal metabolism, cardiac function, blood flow and metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates, as well as for the normal growth and development of the neurological and skeletal systems.

Posology and route of administration:

For oral use only.

In thyroid hormone replacement therapy with L-thyroxine, the dose should be adapted to each animal individually. An initial dose of 20 μg / kg body weight of sodium L-thyroxine, administered once daily, is recommended. This corresponds to 0.2 ml of veterinary medicine per 10 kg of body weight.

At the reassessment, after four weeks, the dose may be adjusted, depending on the clinical response to treatment and the thyroid hormone concentration assessed 4-6 hours after administration of the veterinary medicinal product. An additional assessment of the hormonal response and a dose adjustment can be repeated 4 weeks apart, if necessary.

The maintenance dose between 10 and 40 micrograms / kg of body weight, once a day, is generally sufficient to control the clinical signs of hypothyroidism and restore thyroid hormone concentrations to normal reference intervals.

Special precautions for storage:

Store in a refrigerator (2ºC to 8ºC). Store in the original container.
