Milprazon is indicated for the treatment of mixed infections caused by tapeworms and immature and adult nematodes of the following species: tapeworms ( Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., and Echinococcus multilocularis) and nematodes ( Ancylostoma tubaeforme and Toxocara cati). The veterinary medicinal product can be administered for the prevention of heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) if concomitant treatment against tapeworms is indicated.

Target species: Felines.

Active substances: Milbemycin oxime 16 mg and Praziquantel 40 mg.

Milbemycin oxime is active against mites, larval and adult stages of nematodes, and Dirofilaria immitis larvae. Milbemycin's activity is due to its action on neurotransmission in invertebrates, causing the death of the parasite.

Praziquantel is active against cestodes and trematodes. It alters the calcium permeability of the parasite's membranes, causing an imbalance in membrane structures. This leads to membrane depolarization and near-instant muscle contraction (tetany), rapid vacuolization of the syncytial tegument, and subsequent tegument disintegration (vacuolization), resulting in easier expulsion of the parasite from the gastrointestinal tract or death.

Dosage and route of administration:

Oral route. Cats should be weighed to ensure the correct dosage is determined. Minimum recommended dose: 2 mg of milbemycin oxime and 5 mg of praziquantel per kg, single dose. The veterinary medicinal product should be administered with or after food. Depending on the cat's body weight, practical doses are as follows: 2 to 4 kg - ½ tablet; >4 to 8 kg - 1 tablet; and >8 to 12 kg - 1½ tablets.
