Mentocaine R is indicated for the local treatment of inflammation and infections limited to the mucosa of the oral cavity and oropharynx, such as: pharyngitis, laryngitis, stomatitis and gingivitis, canker sores, odynophagia and rapid relief of sore throats.

Active substances: Tyrothricin and benzocaine.

Benzocaine is a local anesthetic that produces a reversible loss of sensation, preventing or decreasing the conduction of sensory nerve impulses close to the application site. Tyrothricin is therefore an antibiotic of a polypeptide nature for exclusively local use, active “in vitro” on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage and method of administration:

The usual dose for adults is one lozenge every hour and should not exceed 10 lozenges per day. The usual dose for children over the age of 6 years is 3 to 5 lozenges per day, spaced throughout the day. Mentocaine R lozenges must dissolve slowly in the mouth to ensure an adequate concentration of the active substances in the saliva. To obtain the desired effect, they should not be chewed or ingested whole. Mentocaine R is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients. History of hypersensitivity to local anesthetics; History of hypersensitivity to para-aminobenzoic acid and derivatives and to hydroxybenzoate group preservatives; In patients with a history of phenylketonuric hypersensitivity; In children under 6 years of age due to possible hypersensitivity to menthol; In individuals who are on a low-sodium diet or in hypertensive patients; In individuals who are on a low potassium diet; In individuals with diabetes.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
