Nix 10mg/g Cream is indicated in the treatment of infestations by hair lice ( Pediculus Humanus var. capitis ).
Active substances: 1% w/w permethrin.
Permethrin is a perithroid with pediculocidal and ovicidal activity, which has been shown to be active against hair lice (Pediculus Humanus var capitis) and nits.
Dosage and method of administration:
For single topical application. The contents of one bottle are sufficient for hair of normal thickness and shoulder length. A larger amount can be applied, but it is not likely to be necessary to use more than 2 bottles in a single application. For external use only. Adults and children over 6 months of age: Nix cream should be applied after washing the hair with a mild shampoo and drying it with a towel. The bottle must be shaken well before applying Nix cream in order to cover the hair and scalp. The areas behind the ears and the back of the neck should not be neglected. Leave the Nix cream on for 10 minutes before rinsing the hair thoroughly with water. Dry as usual. If desired, after the final rinse and while the hair is still wet, comb through the hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove dead lice and nits. In most cases (97-99%), a single application is enough to eliminate hair lice and provide protection for a maximum of two weeks. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated 7 or 14 days later. If after 7-10 days of permethrin treatment live lice are found, the permethrin treatment should be repeated. If after 14-20 days the infestation is still active, treatment with an alternative product should be considered. NOTE After treatment, lice may continue to wiggle/squirm for 24 hours, which is usually a sign of Nix cream-induced paralysis and not a sign of treatment ineffectiveness. Children under 6 months of age: Nix cream should not be applied to children under six months of age, unless directed by a doctor.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients.
If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
