Norlevo 1.5mg it is a medication for emergency contraception up to 72 hours after unprotected sex or in case of contraceptive failure.

Active substance: 1.5 mg levonorgestrel.

The primary mechanism of action is inhibition and / or delay of ovulation by suppressing the peak of the hormone lutein (LH). Levonorgestrel interferes with the ovulatory process if administered before the LH peak occurs. Levonorgestrel has no emergency contraceptive effect when administered after this stage of the cycle.

Posology and method of administration:

Treatment consists of administering a pill. The effectiveness of this method of emergency contraception is all the greater the faster it is taken after poorly protected or unprotected sex. Therefore, the tablet should be taken as early as possible, preferably within 12 hours after poorly protected or unprotected sex, up to a maximum of 72 hours (3 days). Norlevo 1.5 mg can be administered at any time during the menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within three hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately. After using an emergency contraceptive, it is recommended to use a local contraceptive method (condom, spermicide, cervical cone) until the next menstruation. The use of Norlevo 1.5 mg does not prevent you from taking regular hormonal contraceptives. Repeated administration of Norlevo 1.5 mg during the same menstrual cycle is not advisable as it contributes to an undesirable hormonal overload with possible serious disturbances in the menstrual cycle. Women who repeatedly take emergency contraceptives should be advised to choose a regular, long-term contraceptive method.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
