Ellaone 30mg it is a medication for emergency contraception up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex or in case of contraceptive failure.

Active substance: 30 mg of ulipristal acetate.

Ulipristal acetate is a selective, orally active, synthetic modulator of the progesterone receptor that acts due to its high affinity binding to the human progesterone receptor. When used for emergency contraception, the mechanism of action is inhibition or delay of ovulation by suppressing the increase in luteinizing hormone (LH).

Posology and method of administration:

The treatment consists of the oral administration of a pill, as soon as possible, at the latest by 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. The tablet can be taken at any stage of the menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken. If a woman's menstrual period is delayed or in case of symptoms of pregnancy, the possibility of pregnancy should be ruled out before the tablet is administered.

EllaOne is for occasional use only. In no case should you replace a regular contraceptive method. In any case, women should be advised to use regular contraception. Ulipristal acetate is not intended for use during pregnancy and should not be administered by any woman who suspects pregnancy or is pregnant. However, it does not terminate an existing pregnancy.

Ulipristal acetate is an emergency contraceptive that lowers the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex, but does not provide contraceptive protection for later sex. Therefore, after using emergency contraception, women should be advised to use a reliable barrier method until the next menstrual period.
