Calmarum Dry and Irritating Cough is an antitussive medicine indicated for the symptomatic treatment of irritating and dry cough.

Active Substance: 2.0 mg Dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a 3-methoxy derivative of levorphanol. It has an antitussive effect, but does not have analgesic, respiratory depressant or psychomimetic properties at therapeutic doses and is attributed to a slight additive potential.

Posology and method of administration:

Adults and children from 12 years of age: The usual dosage is 5-10 ml (1-2 scoops with 5 ml) of Calmarum dry irritating cough per dose, 4 to 6 hours apart. The maximum daily dose of dextromethorphan hydrobromide is 120 mg (equivalent to 12 measuring scoops of 5 ml each). Children from 6 to 12 years: The usual dosage is 30 to 60 mg/20 to 35 kg body weight/day. Usual dose of 2.5-5 ml of Calmarum dry and irritating cough at intervals of 4 to 6 hours. The maximum daily dose of dextromethorphan hydrobromide is 60 mg (equivalent to 6 measuring scoops of 5 ml each). Children between 2 and 6 years: The usual dosage is 15 to 30 mg/12 to 20 kg body weight/day. Usual dose of 1.25-2.5 ml of Calmarum, dry and irritating cough at intervals of 4 to 6 hours. The maximum daily dose is 30 mg (equivalent to 3 measuring scoops of 5 ml). Elderly or patients with impaired hepatic and/or renal function: The starting dose should be reduced to half the recommended dose and, if necessary, increased depending on tolerability. The treatment period must not exceed 5 days. Treatment should be limited to the period when the cough occurs without ever exceeding the recommended doses. For correct administration, a measuring spoon must be used.

According to current legislation, medicines not subject to a prescription in Portugal can only be delivered in the municipalities of Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos, Porto, Santo Tirso, Trofa, Valongo and Vila do Conde. This limitation does not apply to shipments to other Member States of the European Union .
