Agiolax is indicated for short-term use in cases of occasional constipation.
Active substances: Seeds and mucilage of Ispaghula and fruits of Cassia angustifolia.
The fiber and mucilage of the seeds and the tegument and adjacent skins of Plantago ovata restore normal transit conditions in the large intestine, acting as agents that expand fecal volume. They reduce transit time in the colon by physically stimulating the intestinal wall, binding to fluids and increasing the volume of intestinal content. They also increase fecal weight and water content of feces, retaining water and increasing fecal bacterial mass. Derivatives of 1,8-dihydroxyanthracene have a laxative effect.
Dosage and method of administration:
Adolescents over 12 years of age, adults and the elderly: One or two teaspoons/sachet of granules once a day (equivalent to 5 to 10 g). The correct individual dose is the smallest needed to produce soft but formed stools for comfortable defecation. Children under 12 years of age: Not recommended. Ispaghula mucilage, Ispaghula seeds and Cassia angustifolia fruits should not be taken for a period longer than 1 week. Ispaghula mucilage, Ispaghula seeds and Cassia angustifolia fruits should be swallowed without chewing and with plenty of liquid (approximately 1/4 L), preferably at night, but not immediately before going to bed. An interval of half an hour to one hour should be waited before taking other medicines. Read the package leaflet carefully and if in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
According to current legislation, non-prescription medicines in Portugal can only be delivered to the municipalities of Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos, Porto, Santo Tirso, Trofa, Valongo and Vila do Conde. This limitation does not apply to deliveries to other Member States of the European Union.
