Importal 10g Powder for Oral Solution is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of constipation.

Active Substances: lactitol monohydrate.

Dosage and method of administration:

In the treatment of constipation, due to variations in the individual response of each patient, it is necessary to adjust the dose in order to obtain a daily dejection. Adults (including the elderly): The initial daily dose should be 20 g (2 sachets) taken at once, with a morning or evening meal. After a few days, a daily dose of one sachet may be sufficient for many patients. Pediatric population: The initial average daily dose to be used should be 0.25 g/kg body weight. For children aged 6 to 12 years: 1/2 to 1 sachet per day. Over 12 years: 1 to 2 sachets per day. Importal should be administered in a single daily dose, in the morning or evening, at mealtime, preferably dissolved in liquids or mixed with other foods, followed by the ingestion of 1 or 2 glasses of liquid (200ml each). The choice between taking the morning or evening dose should be made by the patient, according to the response.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients. Since lactitol has its effect on the colon, Importal is contraindicated in all cases where intestinal transit is not assured (intestinal obstruction, etc.). As with all laxatives, Importal should not be used in case of any symptoms or suspected organic damage to the digestive tract and in case of unexplained abdominal pain or rectal bleeding. Fecal impaction must be treated by alternative methods before using Importal. Breastfed babies and children with hereditary autosomal recessive fructose intolerance. Importal is contraindicated in galactosemia. Incomplete metabolism of lactitol can result in the development of fructosemia and galactosemia and their sequelae. Prior electrolyte disturbance.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
