Emla 25mg/g+25mg/g Cream is indicated for topical anesthesia of intact skin, prior to needle insertion, eg. intravenous catheters or blood sampling or superficial surgical procedures in adults and the pediatric population. Topical anesthesia of the genital mucosa, eg. before superficial surgical procedures or infiltration anesthesia; in adults and adolescents ≥ 12 years. Topical anesthesia of leg ulcers to facilitate mechanical cleaning/debridement in adults only.

Active substance : 25 mg of lidocaine and 25 mg of prilocaine.

Dosage and method of administration:

Administration of Emla to genital mucosa, genital skin or leg ulcers should only be performed by or under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Details of Indications or Procedures to be used, such as Dosage and Application Time, are provided in the package leaflet. Cutaneous use. The protective film of the tube is perforated by applying the cap. One gram of Emla pressed to the outside of a 30 g tube is approximately 3.5 cm. If high levels of dosing precision are required to prevent overdose (ie, at doses approaching the maximum in neonates or if two applications are required within a 24-hour period), a syringe may be used where 1 ml = 1 g. A thick layer of Emla should be applied to the skin, including genital skin, under an occlusive dressing. For application to larger areas, such as a partial skin graft for grafting, an elastic bandage should be applied over the occlusive dressing to achieve even distribution of cream and protect the area. In the presence of atopic dermatitis, the application time should be reduced. For procedures related to the genital mucosa, an occlusive dressing is not required. The procedure should begin immediately after removing the cream. For leg ulcer related procedures, a thick layer of Emla should be applied under an occlusive dressing. Cleansing should begin immediately after removing the cream. When used on leg ulcers, the Emla tube is for single use only. The tube with any remaining contents must be discarded after each session in which a patient has been treated.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Hypersensitivity to amide-type local anesthetics.
