Propalin is a veterinary medicine used to treat urinary incontinence associated with incompetence of the urethral sphincter in the dog. Efficacy has only been demonstrated in ovariohistirectomized bitches.
Active substance: Phenylpropanolamine
The clinical effect of phenylpropanolamine on urinary incontinence is based on its stimulation effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors. This stimulation causes an increase and a stabilization of the pressure of the occlusion in the urethra, which is innervated mainly by the adrenergic nerves.
Posology and route of administration:
For oral administration.
The recommended dose is 1mg / kg of live weight 3 times a day in the diet, corresponding to 0.1ml of Propalin for every 5kg live weight 3 times a day.
The degree of absorption is higher if administered on an empty stomach.
