Profender is a veterinary medicine for cats suffering from, or at risk for, mixed parasitic infections caused by round worms, flat worms and lung worms of the following species:

Round worms (Nematodes)

• Toxocara cati (mature adults, immature adults, L4 and L3),
• Toxocara cati (L3 larva) - treatment of cats in the final stage of pregnancy to prevent lactogenic transmission to the litter
• Toxascaris leonina (mature adults, immature adults and L4)
• Ancylostoma tubaeforme (mature adults, immature adults and L4)

Flatworms (Cestodes)

• Dipylidium caninum (mature adults and immature adults)
• Taenia taeniaeformis (adults)
• Echinococcus multilocularis (adults)

Pulmonary worms

• Aelurostrongylus abstrusus (adults)

Active substances: Profender contains emodepside 21.4 mg / ml and praziquantel 85.8 mg / ml.

Emodepside is a semi-synthetic compound belonging to the new chemical group of depsipeptides. It is active against nematodes (ascarids and hookworms). In this medicine, emodepside is responsible for its effectiveness against Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, and Aelurostrongylus abstrusus. It acts at the neuromuscular junction by stimulating the presynaptic receptors belonging to the family of secretin receptors, which results in the paralysis and death of the parasites.

Praziquantel is a derivative of pyrazinoisoquinoline effective against tapeworms, such as Dipylidium caninum, Echinococcus multilocularis, and Taenia taeniaeformis. Praziquantel is rapidly adsorbed via the parasites' surface and acts mainly by altering the parasite's membrane permeability to Ca ++. This results in severe damage to the parasite's integument, contraction and paralysis, disruption of metabolism and ultimately death of the parasite.

Posology and route of administration:

The recommended minimum doses are 3 mg emodepside / kg body weight and 12 mg praziquantel / kg body weight, equivalent to 0.14 ml Profender / kg body weight.

For the treatment of roundworm and flatworm infections, a single administration per treatment is effective.

In the case of treating cats to prevent the lactogenic transmission of Toxocara cati (larva L3) to the litter, a single administration per treatment, approximately 7 days before the expected date of delivery, is effective.

In the case of the pulmonary worm Aelurostrongylus abstrusus, two treatments are effective, given two weeks apart.

For external use only. Remove a pipette from its packaging. Hold the pipette upright, twist and remove the cap. Use the opposite end of the cap to break the pipette seal.

Remove fur from the neck at the base of the cat's neck until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze the pipette firmly several times, in order to empty the contents directly onto the skin. The application at the base of the neck will minimize the possibility of the cat licking the product.
