Perlutex 5 mg 20 tablets

Perlutex is indicated in:

• Bitches: interruption and postponement of heat.
• Cats: long-term prevention of heat.

Active substance: 5 mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate.

Plasma levels of medroxyprogesterone acetate during treatment cause atresia of the follicles without significant luteinization, inhibiting follicular maturation. This effect results from a combination of the inhibition of the ovulatory peak induced by the luteinizing hormone, through the inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and the interference on the estrogen receptors on the wall of the developing follicle itself, which prevents ovulation that would normally take place in response to rising estrogen levels. The disappearance of behavioral and external manifestations of heat is attributed to the direct effect of medroxyprogesterone acetate on estrogen receptors in the reproductive tract and in the central nervous system.

Posology and route of administration:

Oral administration.

Bitches - For the interruption of heat and subsequent postponement: 2 tablets daily for 4 days, followed by one daily tablet, for 12 to 14 days. This dose should be doubled in dogs over 15 kg live weight. Treatment should only be started when proestral bleeding is evident.

Cats - For estrus prevention: 1 tablet with weekly intervals. Administration should start in diestrus or anestrus. Anestrus or diestrus can be difficult to detect in some cats and can be mistaken for early pregnancy. It may be necessary to isolate the cat during a heat period to ensure that administration is initiated at the time of diestrus.
