Otomax Ear Drops 14ml

Otomax is indicated for the treatment of acute external otitis in dogs. Also for the treatment of short-term exacerbation of acute signs of chronic otitis externa of bacterial and fungal origin caused by bacteria sensitive to gentamicin, such as Staphylococcus intermedius and by fungi sensitive to clotrimazole, in particular Malassezia pachidermatis.

Active substances: each milliliter contains Gentamicin base (in the form of sulfate) 2640 IU, Betamethasone (in the form of valerate) 0.88 mg and Clotrimazole 8.80 mg.

Gentamicin sulfate is a bactericidal aminoglycoside antibiotic, which acts by inhibiting protein synthesis. Its spectrum of action includes gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, such as the following pathogenic organisms isolated from dogs' ears: Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus spp. coagulase-positive and Proteus mirabilis.

Betamethasone valerate is a synthetic corticosteroid, analogous to dexamethasone, with anti-inflammatory and antipruritic activity when applied topically. It has moderate mineralocorticoid properties. After topical application, betamethasone valerate is absorbed. In case of inflammation of the skin, absorption may be increased.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent that acts by altering the cell membrane, which leads to a loss of intracellular components and, consequently, to the interruption of molecular synthesis. Clotrimazole has a broad spectrum of activity and is used to treat skin in situations caused by various species of pathogenic dermatophytes and fungi, in particular Malassezia pachidermatis.

Posology and route of administration:

For auricular administration only.

Shake the veterinary medicine well before use.

Dogs weighing less than 15 kg: apply 4 drops to the ear, twice a day.

Dogs weighing more than 15 kg: apply 8 drops to the ear, twice a day.

The duration of treatment is 7 days. After application, the base of the ear can be briefly and gently massaged to allow the preparation to penetrate the lower part of the ear canal.
