Atopica 100mg/ml 5ml

Atopica 100mg/ml is a medicine for the symptomatic treatment of chronic allergic dermatitis in cats and treatment of chronic manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs.

Active substance: Cyclosporine 100mg/ml.

Ciclosporin exerts anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects in the treatment of allergic and atopic dermatitis. The disease is chronic, relapsing and requires lifelong management.Ciclosporin acts selectively on the immune cells involved in allergic reactions. Ciclosporinreduces the inflammation and pruritus associated with atopic dermatitis. It is good practice to treat flea infestations before and during treatment of allergic dermatitis. A full clinical examination should be performed prior to treatment. The immune status of cats with respect to FeLV and FIV infections should be assessed prior to treatment. Any type of infection should be adequately treated before starting treatment. Infections occurring during treatment do not necessarily constitute a reason for discontinuation of the veterinary medicinal product unless the infection is severe. The efficacy and safety of ciclosporin have not been evaluated in cats or dogs less than 6 months of age and weighing less than 2 kg.

Target species: Felines (cats). Canines (dogs weighing more than 2 kg).

Dosage and route of administration:

Cats: The recommended dose of ciclosporin is 7 mg/kg of body weight (0.07 ml of oral solution per kg) and should initially be administered daily. The frequency of administration should subsequently be decreased according to response.

Dogs: The average recommended dose of ciclosporin is 5mg/kg body weight (0.05ml oral solution per kg) and should initially be given daily until significant clinical improvement is seen. This will normally be the case after 4 weeks. If there is no response within the first 8 weeks, treatment should be discontinued.
