Stronghold is indicated for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides spp for one month after a single application. For dogs and cats it is also indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis , with monthly application, and for the treatment of auricular acariasis ( O. cynotis ). In cats it is indicated for the treatment of infection by adult roundworms ( Toxocara cati ), adult intestinal hookworms ( Ancylostoma tubaeforme) and biting lice ( Felicola subrostratus ). For dogs it is indicated for the treatment of infestations by biting lice ( Trichodectes canis ), sarcoptic mange (caused by S. scabiei ) and infection by adult intestinal roundworms ( Toxocara canis) .

Due to the reduction in flea populations, monthly treatment of pregnant and lactating females will also help prevent flea infestations in litters up to seven weeks of age. The medication can be used as part of a treatment strategy for allergic dermatitis caused by flea bites and due to its ovicidal and larvicidal action it can help control flea infestations in the environment to which the animal has access.

Target species: Canines (dogs) and felines (cats).

Active substance: selamectin.

Dosage and route of administration:

Apply topically to the skin at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades. Stronghold should be used as a single topical application, with a single dose releasing at least 6 mg of selamectin per kg of body weight. A single topical application should be used at the recommended dose of 6 mg/kg even if, at any time, there is a need to treat concomitant infections or infestations with the drug in the same animal. The appropriate treatment period for each parasite is specified in the package leaflet.
