Carprodyl Quadri is indicated for dogs to reduce inflammation and pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative joint disease. As a follow-up to parenteral analgesia in the management of postoperative pain.

Active substance: Carprofen 50mg

Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), of the 2-aryl propionic acid class and has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity. The mechanism of action of carprofen is not well known. However, it has been shown that the inhibition of the enzyme cyclooxygenase by carprofen is relatively weak at the recommended dose. It has also been demonstrated that carprofen does not inhibit the production of thromboxane (TX) B2 during the blood clotting process of the dog, nor that of prostaglandin (PG) E2 or 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE) in the inflammatory exudate. This suggests that the mechanism of action of carprofen does not pass through the inhibition of eicosanoids. Some authors have suggested a carprofen activity on one or more inflammatory mediators that have not yet been identified. However, it was not possible to provide any clinical evidence.

Posology and route of administration:

For oral administration.

Administer 4 mg of carprofen per kg of body weight per day.

The analgesic effect of each dose is maintained for at least 12 hours. The daily dose may be reduced depending on the clinical response. The duration of treatment will depend on the response observed. Long-term treatment should be monitored regularly by a veterinarian.

To extend the analgesic and anti-inflammatory coverage in the postoperative period, a preoperative parenteral treatment with injectable carprofen may be followed by carprofen in tablets at a dose of 4 mg / kg / day for 5 days.
