Relief of inflammation and pain in acute and chronic musculoskeletal diseases in dogs.
Active substance: Meloxicam
Meloxicam is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) from the oxicam group, which acts by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, thus exerting anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-exudative and antipyretic effects. Reduces leukocyte infiltration in inflamed tissue. To a lesser extent, it also inhibits collagen-induced thrombocyte aggregation. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated that meloxicam inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) to a greater extent than cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1).
Dosage and route of administration:
Orally. Administer mixed with food or directly into the mouth. Shake well before administering.
Initial treatment is a single dose of 0.2 mg meloxicam/kg body weight on the first day. Treatment should continue with oral administration once a day (at 24-hour intervals) of a maintenance dose of 0.1 mg meloxicam/kg body weight.
For longer treatment, and once clinical response is observed (after ≥ 4 days), the dose of the product may be adjusted to the lowest effective individual dose, reflecting the degree of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders. Chronic skeletal disorders may vary over time.
Clinical response is normally observed within 3 - 4 days. Treatment should be stopped after a maximum of 10 days, if no clinical improvement is apparent.
