Furosoral is indicated for the treatment of hydrothorax, hydropericardium, ascites and edema, especially associated with heart failure and renal dysfunction, in dogs and cats.
Active substance: Furosemide 40 mg
Furosemide is a derivative of sulfamoyl anthranilic acid and is a fast-acting diuretic in humans and animals. It inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the kidneys mainly in the ascending loop of Henle, but also in the proximal and distal renal tubules, producing an increase in water excretion. An isotonic or slightly hypotonic urine with an unchanged or slightly acidic pH is produced. Excretion of potassium ions is increased only at very high doses.
Posology and route of administration:
For oral administration.
The recommended starting dose is 2.5-5 mg of furosemide per kg of body weight per day, corresponding to ½-1 tablet per 2 kg of body weight.
In severe edematous or refractory cases, the daily dose may initially be doubled.
For maintenance, the daily dose should be adapted by the veterinarian to the lowest effective dose depending on the dog/cat's clinical response to therapy.
