The reading can be made in the right or left ear. The thermometer measures the infrared rays emitted by the eardrum and the ear canal. These rays are collected by the sensor and converted into temperature values. The best results are obtained when the infrared rays are collected from the middle ear (eardrum). The rays emitted by the surrounding tissues give lower readings.

The thermometer measures the infrared rays emitted by the skin in the area of the forehead and temples and in the surrounding tissue. The rays are collected by the sensors and converted to temperature values. The most accurate values are obtained when moving the device from temple to temple.
