Lipovir 50mg/g Gel is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the lips and face (recurrent cold sores).

Active substances: 50mg/g of acyclovir.

Acyclovir is a highly active in vitro antiviral against herpes simplex viruses (HSV) types I and II and Varicella zoster.

Dosage and method of administration:

Pediatric population (children aged 2 to 12 years): It is recommended to use, under medical advice, Lipovir 50 mg/g Gel and in the same dosage as adults. Adults and children 12 years of age and older: Lipovir 50 mg/g Gel should be applied five times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals, omitting the evening application. Lipovir 50 mg/g Gel should be applied to lesions or impending lesions as soon as possible after the onset of an infection. In recurrent episodes, it is particularly important to start treatment in the initial period (prodrome or erythema) or when the lesions appear. Studies in patients with cold sores have shown that treatment is still effective if started after the appearance of lesions (papule or vesicle stage). The treatment should be carried out for four days. If after four days no healing has been achieved, the treatment can be continued for up to 10 days. If lesions are still present after 10 days, users should be advised to consult a physician. Users should wash their hands before and after applying the gel. They should also avoid touching or scratching the lesions with their hands or even with a towel, so as not to aggravate or transfer the infection.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients and in patients with known hypersensitivity to valaciclovir.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
