Aureodermil Ophthalmic Ointment is a veterinary medicine indicated for the topical treatment of bacterial infections, caused by microorganisms sensitive to neomycin and sulfacetamide, namely gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic microorganisms such as Salmonella, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Proteus, Acinetobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus , Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus muenzae and in inflammatory conditions of the eyeball and attached structures, namely:

- microbial conjunctivitis,

- infected allergic conjunctivitis,

- kerato-conjunctivitis,

- eosinophilic keratitis,

- uveitis, scleritis,

- episcleritis,

- blepharitis.

Active substances: Prednisolone acetate at 5 mg / g; Neomycin sulfate at 5 mg / g; Sulfacetamide sodium at 100 mg / g.

The veterinary medicine has ocular antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action, due to the combination of its active substances, neomycin sulfate, prednisolone acetate and sodium sulfacetamide.

Neomycin is an antibiotic whose usual antibacterial spectrum encompasses enterobacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, meningococcus, gonococcus, Citrobacter, Shigella, salmonella, klebsiellas, yersinias, Campylobacter, Brucella, Haemophyllus, Bordatella, Pasteurella cystica, Listeria . The mechanism of action of this antibiotic is based on the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis, resulting in the appearance of abnormal proteins that are not functional.

Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid, with steroidal anti - inflammatory action. The biological effects of the anti-inflammatory action are essentially reflected in the inhibition of vascular permeability that allows a call of the white blood cells to the inflammation site and in an inhibition of the molecular phenomena related to the activation of the white blood cells and their adhesion to the endothelial cells.

Sulfacetamide has a bacteriostatic and antiseptic action. It acts by competitive antagonism of para-aminobenzoic acid, preventing its incorporation into folic acid.

Target species: Sport dogs, cats and horses.

Posology and route of administration:

The dosage as well as the duration of treatment must be instituted by the veterinarian, case by case. Apply topically to the ocular mucosa (at the internal angle) 3 to 4 times a day. During the first application, it is advisable to discard the small portion of ointment in contact with the lid. Since the action of sulfacetamide is bacteriostatic, therapy should be continued for up to 48 hours after the objective cure. Do not stop treatment abruptly and gradually reduce the dose in case of prolonged therapy.
