Deltanil is a topical application for the treatment and prevention of lice and flies infestations in cattle, ticks, lice and myiasis in sheep, lice and ticks in lambs.

Cattle: Treatment and prevention of biting and sucking lice infestations including Bovicola bovis, Solenopotes capillatus, Linognathus vituli and Haematopinus eurysternus. As an aid in the treatment and prevention of infestations by biting flies and hematophagous diptera including Haematobia irritans, Stomoxys calcitrans, Musca species and Hydrotaea irritans. Sheep: Treatment and prevention of infestations with ticks Ixodes ricinus and lice (Linognathus ovillus, Bovicola ovis), dipterans (Melophagus ovinus) and myiasis (usually Lucilia spp).
Lambs: Control of infestations by ticks Ixodes ricinus and lice Bovicola ovis.

Active substances: Deltamethrin 10 mg.

Deltamethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid, with insecticidal and acaricidal activity. It belongs to the family of pyrethroid esters that have evolved as synthetic analogs of the original insecticidal extracts isolated from crushed pyrethrum flowers. Deltamethrin is an alpha-cyano pyrethroid, a member of the second generation of pyrethroids with greater molecular stability, corresponding increase in resistance to photo and biodegradation and better insecticidal captivity. It is slowly metabolized and is therefore potentially more toxic to insects and mites.

Posology and route of administration:

For external use.

Cattle: 100 mg of deltamethrin per animal corresponding to 10 ml of veterinary medicinal product.

Sheep: 50 mg of deltamethrin per animal corresponding to 5 ml of veterinary medicine.

Lambs: (up to 10 kg of body weight or less than 1 month old): 25 mg of deltamethrin per animal corresponding to 2.5 ml of veterinary medicine.

Administer with an appropriate device whenever using a multidose container.

Place of application:

Apply the veterinary medicinal product along the dorsal midline at the level of the scapula line.

Lice in cattle: A single application usually eradicates all lice. The total elimination of lice can take 4-5 weeks, covering the hatching period of the eggs. The lice survival rate is reduced and limited to a small number of animals.

Flies in cattle: The control and prevention of infestations can last 4-8 weeks in the case of hematophagous diptera.

Sheep ticks: Application at the midpoint of the shoulder blades for the treatment and prevention of tick infestations attached to animals of any age, up to 6 weeks after treatment.

Diptera and lice in sheep: Application at the midpoint of the scapulae in sheep with short or long fleece reduces the incidence of infestations with dipterous or biting lice for 4-6 weeks after treatment. It is advisable to: - treat immediately after shearing (animals with short fleece), - keep treated sheep separate from untreated sheep to avoid re-infestation. Note: For the treatment and prevention of tick, dipteran and lice infestations in sheep, the fleece must be removed and the veterinary medicine applied to the skin.

Myiasis in sheep: Apply directly to the larvae infested area as soon as the fly is detected. An application produces a larvicidal effect in a short time. In case of serious injuries, it is advisable to clip before treatment.

Lice and ticks in lambs: Application on the midline of the dorsum at the level of the shoulder blades for the treatment and prevention of tick infestations up to 6 weeks after treatment and to reduce the incidence of biting lice for 4-6 weeks after treatment.
