Pexion is indicated for reducing the frequency of generalized seizures due to idiopathic epilepsy in dogs for administration after careful evaluation of alternative treatment options.
Active substance: Imepitoin 100mg.
Imepitoin is a centrally acting anti-epileptic substance that crosses the blood-brain barrier, without involving active transport or active clearance, resulting in an immediate balance between plasma and brain. Here, it acts as a partial agonist with low affinity for the benzodiazepine receptor.
Imepitoin inhibits seizures by potentiating the inhibitory effects mediated by the GABAA receptor on neurons. In addition, imepitoin has a weak calcium channel blocking effect, which may contribute to its anticonvulsant properties.
Posology and route of administration:
Oral administration with a dose range of 10 mg to 30 mg of imepitoin per kg of body weight, twice daily, approximately every 12 hours. Each tablet can be broken in half to obtain the appropriate dose according to the individual body weight of the dog. Any remaining half of the tablet should be taken with the next dose.
The required dose will vary depending on the animal and will depend on the severity of the disorder. The recommended starting dose of imepitoin is 10 mg per kg of body weight twice a day.
