Reduction in proteinuria associated with chronic renal failure.

Active substance:

Benazepril hydrochloride 2.50 mg

Benazepril hydrochloride is an in vivo hydrolyzed prodrug for its active metabolite, benazeprilat. Benazeprilat is a highly potent selective ACE inhibitor, thus preventing the conversion of inactive angiotensin I into active angiotensin II and thus also reducing the synthesis of aldosterone. As such, it blocks the effects mediated by angiotensin II and aldosterone, including vasoconstriction of arteries and veins, sodium and water retention by the kidneys and remodeling effects (including pathological cardiac hypertrophy and degenerative renal changes). The drug causes prolonged inhibition of ACE plasma activity in cats, over 95% activity inhibition and a significant effect (> 90%) that persists 24 hours after its administration.

In cats with experimental renal failure, the drug normalized high arterial glomerular pressure and reduced systemic blood pressure. The reduction of glomerular hypertension can slow the progression of kidney failure by preventing the progression of kidney damage. Clinical field studies, controlled with a placebo, carried out in cats with chronic renal failure (CRF) demonstrated that the veterinary medicine significantly reduced the levels of protein in the urine and the protein / creatinine ratio in the urine (UPC); this effect is probably mediated by the reduction of glomerular hypertension and the beneficial effects on the glomerular basement membrane. No effects of the veterinary medicine on the survival of cats with CRF have been observed, but the veterinary medicine has increased the cats' appetite, especially in more advanced cases.

Posology and route of administration:

The veterinary medicinal product must be administered orally once a day, with or without food. The duration of treatment is unlimited.
