Cardisure it is indicated for the treatment of canine congestive heart failure originating from valve failure (mitral and / or tricuspid regurgitation) or dilated cardiomyopathy.
Active substance: Pimobendan, available in dosages of 1.25mg; 2.5mg; 5mg; 10mg.
Do not use in case of hypertrophic cardiomyopathies or in clinical conditions where an increase in cardiac output is not possible due to functional or anatomical problems (eg aortic stenosis).
Pimobendan, a derivative of benzimidazole-pyridazinone, is an inotropic, non-sympathomimetic and non-glycoside substance with potent vasodilating properties.
Pimobendan exerts its stimulating effect on the myocardium due to a double mode of action: it increases the sensitivity of cardiac myofilaments to calcium and inhibits phosphodiesterase activity (type III). It also exerts a vasodilating action by inhibiting phosphodiesterase III activity.
Posology and route of administration:
Determine precisely the body weight before treatment in order to ensure a correct dosage. The tablets should be administered orally at a dose between 0.2 and 0.6 mg of pimobendan / kg of body weight per day. The recommended daily dose is 0.5 mg pimobendan / kg body weight. The dose should be divided into two doses (0.25 mg / kg body weight each), half the dose in the morning and the other half 12 hours later. The maintenance dose should be adjusted individually by the responsible veterinarian according to the severity of the disease.
