Atopica 100mg / ml is a medication for the symptomatic treatment of chronic allergic dermatitis.

Active substance: Cyclosporine 100 mg

Cyclosporine exerts anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects in the treatment of allergic and atopic dermatitis.

Allergic dermatitis can have different manifestations, including eosinophilic plaques, excoriations on the head and neck, symmetrical alopecia and/or miliary dermatitis. The clinical signs of allergic dermatitis, such as itching and skin inflammation, are not specific to this disease. Other causes of dermatitis, such as ectoparasitic infestations or food allergies, should be evaluated and eliminated whenever possible. Good practice is to treat flea infestations before and during treatment for allergic dermatitis. A complete clinical examination must be carried out before treatment. The immune status of cats in relation to FeLV and FIV infections must be assessed before treatment. Any type of infection must be properly treated before starting treatment. Infections occurring during treatment do not necessarily constitute a reason for discontinuing the veterinary medicinal product, unless the infection is serious.

The efficacy and safety of cyclosporine have not been evaluated in cats or dogs less than 6 months of age and weighing less than 2 kg.

Posology and route of administration:

Cats: The recommended dose of cyclosporine is 7 mg/kg of body weight (0.07 ml of oral solution per kg) and should initially be administered daily. The frequency of administration should subsequently be decreased depending on the response.

Dogs: The recommended average dose of cyclosporine is 5mg/kg of body weight (0.05 ml of oral solution per kg) and should initially be administered daily until significant clinical improvement is visible. This will normally be the case after 4 weeks. If there is no response during the first 8 weeks, treatment should be stopped.
