Apistan are antiparasitic strips in synthetic polymer for hives indicated in the treatment of Varroose (Varroa destructor) in colonies of honey bees.

Active substance: Tau- Fluvalinate at 10% w / w, that is, 800mg per 8g band.

Tau-fluvalinate is an ectoparasiticide of the class of cyanopyrethroid compounds, which act by causing rapid depolarization of the axonal membrane. The molecule is of low toxicity to bees, especially due to the poor suitability of the molecule to potential receptors in this species. In Varroa destructor, uptake is rapid and death results from hyperexcitability and nervous exhaustion.

Posology and route of administration:

For bee application.

Dose: 2 strips of veterinary medicine per hive.

Administration: The strips should be suspended halfway between frames so that the bees can walk on both sides of the band. One strip must be suspended between frames 3 and 4 and the other must be suspended between frames 7 and 8 inside the breeding chamber.

The treatment should be 6 to 8 weeks, after which, the strips must be removed in order to avoid favoring the eventual development of resistance phenomena. Small or swarming colonies need only a strip in the breeding area. The strips must not be applied to the honey frames. All hives in the hive must be treated in order to avoid reinfestations. To maximize the effectiveness of the veterinary medicine, it should be applied preferably in early spring (as soon as possible) or in autumn (after the last crop) when the amount of breeding present is lowest. However, in the case of severe infestations, the veterinary medicinal product can be used at any time of the year.
