Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose (milk sugar) into its glucose and galactose components. Without this chemical reaction, the components of milk sugar cannot be absorbed through the mucosa of the small intestine. In humans, this enzyme is usually produced in the small intestine during childhood. Most people continue to produce it into adulthood.

THE lactose intolerance also known as milk intolerance, results from the non-digestion of milk sugar (lactose) present in food, as a result of an insufficiency or absence in the production of the enzyme lactase. Undigested lactose reaches the large intestine where it is absorbed and fermented by intestinal bacteria. This fermentation produces lactate (lactic acid) and gases methane (CH4) and hydrogen (H2).

Symptoms: The gases mentioned above cause bloating. Lactic acid attracts water to the intestine, causing diarrhea. However, there may also be non-specific symptoms such as chronic fatigue, depressive states, pain in the limbs, anxiety, dizziness, headaches, feeling of exhaustion, inability to rest, sleep disorders, acne, problems with concentration, etc. These problems increase with the amount of lactose ingested.

What is Lactease®? The lactase enzyme contained in Lactease® chewable tablets (for teenagers and adults) ensures the function of the body's own lactase (which is absent in cases of lactose intolerance), thus helping the normal digestion of foods containing lactose.

Directions for use:

Chew or swallow 1 to 2 tablets shortly before eating lactose-containing foods.
