Galliprant it is indicated for the treatment of acute pain associated with mild to moderate osteoarthritis in dogs.

Grapiprant is a non-steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication in the piprant class. Grapiprant is a selective EP4 receptor antagonist, a key receptor for prostaglandin E2 that predominantly mediates nociception triggered by prostaglandin E2. The specific effects of binding prostaglandin E2 to the EP4 receptor include vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, angiogenesis and production of pro-inflammatory mediators. The EP4 receptor is important in mediating pain and inflammation, because it is the primary mediator of sensory neuron sensitization triggered by prostaglandin E2 and inflammation triggered by prostaglandin E2.

Posology and route of administration:

Oral use.

Administer this veterinary medicinal product on an empty stomach (for example, in the morning) and at least one hour before the next feeding, once a day at a target dose of 2 mg per kg of body weight.

The duration of treatment will depend on the response to treatment observed. As the field studies were limited to 28 days, a longer treatment must be carefully considered, and must be monitored regularly by the veterinarian.

Since the clinical signs of canine osteoarthritis are not constant, intermittent treatment may be beneficial in some dogs.
