Active ingredient:

Enrofloxacin.

Species:

Dogs.

Pharmacological properties:

Enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone that exerts its activity by inhibiting topoisomerase II, an enzyme involved in the mechanism of bacterial replication. In general, enrofloxacin is active against most gram-negative bacteria, especially against Enterobacteriaceas. They are generally sensitive to Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., And Enterobacter sp. Pseudomonas aeruginosa has variable sensitivity, and normally when sensitive, it has a MIC greater than that of other sensitive organisms. Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius are normally susceptible. Streptococcus, Enterococcus and anaerobic bacteria are generally resistant.

Presentations:

Cytopoint® is available in 1 ml bottles with four different antibody concentrations (10, 20, 30 or 40 mg / ml).

Administration and doses:

Oral use.

5 mg of enrofloxacin / kg of body weight / day in a single daily dose, ie one tablet for 40 kg of body weight, daily for:

- more than 49 days in case of deep pyoderma, depending on the clinical response.

Contraindications:

Do not use in dogs with epilepsy, because enrofloxacin can cause CNS stimulation. Do not use in dogs with known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or to any of the excipients in this product. Do not use in cases of resistance to quinolones, because there is almost complete cross-resistance with other quinolones and complete cross-resistance with other fluoroquinolones. Do not use simultaneously with tetracyclines, phenolic or macrolides, due to the potential antagonistic effects.
