Carprox Vet is indicated for dogs in the reduction of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative joint disease. Following parenteral analgesics for postoperative pain management.
Active substance: Carprofen 100mg
Carprofen has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity. Like most NSAIDs, carprofen is an inhibitor of the cyclooxygenase enzyme in the arachidonic acid cascade. However, the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by carprofen is small in relation to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic potency. The precise mode of action of carprofen is not clear.
Target species: Dogs.
Posology and route of administration:
For oral administration.
An initial dose of 2 to 4 mg of carprofen per kg of body weight per day is recommended, to be administered as a single dose or in two equally divided doses. Depending on the clinical reaction, the dose may be reduced after 7 days to 2 mg carprofen / kg body weight / day, given as a single dose. To extend the analgesic coverage in the postoperative period, following parenteral therapy with solution for injection, 4 mg / kg / day tablets can be used for up to 5 days.
The duration of treatment will depend on the reaction observed, but the condition of the dog must be reassessed by the veterinarian after 14 days of therapy.
