For dogs, in case of suspicion or evidence of mixed parasitic infection caused by nematodes and coccidia of the following species:

Nematodes:

  • Toxocara canis (mature adults, immature adults, L4)
  • Uncinaria stenocephala (mature adults)
  • Ancylostoma caninum (mature adults)
  • Trichuris vulpis (mature adults)

Coccidias:

  • Isospora ohioensis Complex
  • Isospora canis

Procox is effective against the multiplication of Isospora and also against the spread of oocysts. Although the treatment reduces the spread of the infection, it is not effective against the clinical signs of the infection in already infected animals.

Active substances: emodepside and toltrazuril.

O emodepside is a semi-synthetic compound belonging to the new chemical group of depsipeptides. It is active against nematodes (ascarids, hookworms and tricurids). In this veterinary medicine, emodepside is responsible for its effectiveness against Toxocara canis, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum and Trichuris vulpis. It acts at the neuromuscular junction by stimulating the presynaptic receptors belonging to the family of secretin receptors, which results in the paralysis and death of the parasites.

O toltrazuril is a derivative of triazine. It acts against coccidia of the genera Eimeria and Isospora. It is active against all stages of intracellular development of merogony (asexual multiplication) and gametogony (sexual phase). All stages are destroyed, and consequently the mode of action is coccidicidal.

Posology and route of administration:

For oral administration in dogs from 2 weeks of age and weighing at least 0.4 kg.

The recommended minimum dose is 0.5 ml / kg body weight, equivalent to 0.45 mg emodepside / kg body weight and 9 mg toltrazuril / kg body weight.

One administration is usually sufficient to reduce the spread of Isospora oocysts. Repeated treatment is only indicated if there is still suspicion or evidence of mixed infection by nematodes and coccidia.
