Atopica is a medicine for the treatment of chronic atopic dermatitis in dogs.

Active substance: Cyclosporine 25mg

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common allergic skin diseases in dogs and is caused by allergens, such as dust mites or pollen, which stimulate an exaggerated immune response in atopic dogs. The disease is chronic, recurrent and requires management throughout life. Cyclosporine acts selectively on immune cells involved in allergic reactions. A ciclosporin reduces the inflammation and itching associated with atopic dermatitis.

Posology and route of administration:

The recommended average dose of cyclosporine is 5 mg / kg of body weight according to the following schedule:

- for a dog weighing 4 to 7.5 g a capsule of the veterinary medicinal product;

The veterinary medicinal product should initially be administered daily until a significant clinical improvement is visible. This will normally be the case after 4 weeks. If there is no response during the first 8 weeks, treatment should be stopped. Once the clinical symptoms of atopic dermatitis are satisfactorily controlled, the medication can then be administered on alternate days as a maintenance dose. The veterinarian must carry out a periodic clinical evaluation and adjust the frequency of administration according to the clinical response obtained. In some cases, where clinical symptoms are controlled with doses on alternate days, the veterinarian may decide to administer the veterinary medicine every 3 to 4 days. Complementary treatment (eg medicinal shampoos, fatty acids) should be considered before reducing the treatment interval.
