Zelys is suitable for:

- treatment of canine congestive heart failure caused by valve insufficiency (mitral and/or tricuspid valve regurgitation) or dilated cardiomyopathy.

- treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy in the preclinical stage (asymptomatic with an increase in left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic diameters) in Doberman Pinschers after echocardiographic diagnosis of heart disease.

- treating dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MVMD) at the preclinical stage (asymptomatic with a systolic mitral murmur and evidence of an enlarged heart) to delay the onset of clinical symptoms of heart failure.

Pimobendan exerts its myocardial stimulatory effect through two mechanisms of action: increased sensitivity to calcium in cardiac myofilaments and inhibition of phosphodiesterase (type III). It also exhibits a vasodilatory effect through an inhibitory action on phosphodiesterase III activity. Thus, positive inotropism is not triggered by an action similar to that of cardiac glycosides nor by sympathomimetics.

Active substance: Pimobendan 1.25 mg.

Target species: Dogs.

Dosage and administration route:

Do not exceed recommended serving. Precisely determine body weight before treatment to ensure the correct dose. The tablets should be administered orally in a dose range of 0.2 mg to 0.6 mg pimobendan/kg body weight per day. The preferred daily dose is 0.5 mg pimobendan/kg body weight. The dose should be divided into two administrations (0.25 mg/kg body weight each), using the appropriate combination of all or half of the tablets. Half the dose in the morning and the other half approximately 12 hours later. Each dose should be taken approximately one hour before eating. Spontaneous swallowing by the animal or placing the tablet behind the lingual torus. This corresponds to: One 1.25 mg chewable tablet in the morning and another 1.25 mg chewable tablet in the evening for a body weight of 5 kg. The tablets can be divided into 2 in the 1.25, 5 and 10 mg presentations.
