Mebocaine Intensive Spray is a non-prescription medicine indicated for the short-term relief of symptoms of acute sore throat in adults.

Active substance: One dose (3 sprays) contains 8.75 mg flurbiprofen. One spray contains 2.92 mg flurbiprofen. One ml of oral spray solution contains 16.2 mg flurbiprofen.

Dosage and method of administration:

Adults aged 18 years and over are recommended to take 8.75 mg (3 sprays) to the back of the throat every 3-6 hours as required, up to a maximum of 5 doses in any 24 hour period. Do not inhale whilst spraying. It is recommended that this medicine should not be used for more than three days. The lowest effective dose should be given for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. Safety and efficacy in children or adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established. For buccal administration and short-term use only. Before first use, the bottle should be shaken and the pump should be activated by pointing the nozzle away from you and pressing at least 4 times until a fine, consistent mist is produced. The pump is then primed and ready for use.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. A history of hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. asthma, bronchospasm, rhinitis, angioedema or urticaria) in response to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs. Active or history of recurrent peptic ulcer/haemorrhage (two or more distinct episodes with proven ulceration) and intestinal ulceration. History of gastrointestinal haemorrhage or perforation, severe colitis, haemorrhage or haematopoietic disorders related to previous NSAID treatment. Last trimester of pregnancy. Severe heart failure, severe renal failure or severe hepatic failure.

According to current legislation, non-prescription medicines in Portugal can only be delivered to the municipalities of Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos, Porto, Santo Tirso, Trofa, Valongo and Vila do Conde. This limitation does not apply to deliveries to other Member States of the European Union.
