Nicotine, the main alkaloid in tobacco products and a naturally occurring autonomous substance, is a nicotine receptor agonist in the central and peripheral nervous system. Nicotine has been shown to be addictive in tobacco consumption.

Dosage and method of administration:

Adults and seniors. Users must completely stop smoking during treatment with Nicotinell Gummies. The 2 mg medicated chewing gum is not recommended for smokers with a strong or very strong dependence on nicotine. The appropriate dose should be selected according to the table in the package leaflet. If any adverse events occur with the use of the high dose forms (4 mg gummies) the use of the low dose forms (2 mg gummies) should be considered. The initial dosage should be individualized based on the patient's degree of nicotine dependence. The user should chew a Nicotinell gum whenever they feel the urge to smoke. In the case of Nicotinell Freshmint 2 mg, normally 8-12 gummies daily, up to a maximum of 25 per day. Due to the characteristics of the chewing gum pharmaceutical form, the serum levels of nicotine obtained may vary from individual to individual. Therefore, the dosage must be adjusted according to individual needs, within the maximum limits indicated. Instructions for use: Each gum must be chewed until the flavor becomes intense. Then keep the chewing gum between the cheek and the gum. When the flavor of the gum subsides, chew again. Repeat the chewing routine for 30 minutes. The duration of treatment is individual. Usually, treatment should continue for at least 3 months. From 3 months onwards, the number of gums chewed per day should be gradually reduced, until the drug is stopped. Treatment should be discontinued when the dose has been reduced to 1-2 gummies per day. The use of nicotine-containing medicines like Nicotinell gums, beyond 6 months, is generally not recommended. Some ex-smokers may need a longer treatment with the gums in order to avoid a relapse. Patients who have been using oral nicotine replacement therapy for more than 9 months should seek additional help and consult with their healthcare professionals. Counseling can help smokers to quit. Concomitant use of acidic beverages, such as coffee or carbonated beverages, may decrease oral absorption of nicotine. Acidic drinks should be avoided 15 minutes before chewing the gum. Nicotinell Gummies should not be used by people under 18 years of age without medical advice. There is no experience in treating adolescents under 18 years of age with Nicotinell Gums.
