Nicopatch TTS is indicated for the treatment of tobacco dependence by alleviating nicotine withdrawal symptoms in smokers motivated to quit smoking. Permanent cessation of tobacco consumption is the ultimate goal of treatment. Counseling and support programs usually improve the success rate.

Active substances: nicotine.

Nicotine, the main alkaloid in tobacco products and a naturally occurring autonomous substance, is a nicotine receptor agonist in the central and peripheral nervous system. Nicotine has been shown to be addictive in tobacco consumption.

Dosage and method of administration:

Only for adults and teenagers over the age of 15. Nicopatch TTS should not be used by smokers under the age of 18 without the recommendation of a healthcare professional. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other nicotine replacement treatments (NRT). In the case of combination therapy, it is recommended that patients seek advice from a healthcare professional. Nicopatch TTS Transdermal Patch is available in three strengths: 7 mg/24 h, 14 mg/24 h, 21 mg/24 h. Dosage should be selected based on the degree of nicotine dependence which is assessed by the number of cigarettes smoked per day or by the Fagerström test for Nicotine Dependence (test available in the package leaflet). The dosage of the transdermal patch should be adapted to the individual response: increase the dosage or maintain the higher dosage if complete smoking cessation is not achieved or if withdrawal symptoms are observed, reduce in case of suspected overdose or satisfactory results. The duration of treatment is approximately 3 months but may vary depending on the individual response. This medicine should not be used for longer than 6 months unless directed by a doctor. Some ex-smokers may need a longer period of treatment to avoid relapses. The patch should be applied once a day, at the same time of day, usually in the morning, right after waking up, on a healthy part of the skin. Wash your hands before applying the patch. Open the sachet with scissors at the perforation as shown. Select a surface of dry skin, without skin lesions and that has little hair (such as the upper arm, shoulder blade, chest or hip). Remove part of the protective coating, avoiding touching the sticky surface of the sticker with your fingers. Apply the sticky part of the patch to the skin and peel off the remaining part of the protective coating. Adhesion depends on the pressure exerted during application of the adhesive. Firmly press the patch onto the skin for approximately 10 seconds with the palm of your hand or fingers to ensure optimal adhesion of the patch. Press your fingers firmly on all four edges of the sticker to ensure it sticks securely. During handling, avoid contact with eyes and nose and wash hands after application. A new patch should be placed every 24 hours in a different location from the previous location. The transdermal patch must be folded in half with the sticky side facing inward before discarding.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients. No smokers or occasional smokers.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
