Daktarin 20 mg / g Oral Gel it is indicated for the treatment of candidiasis of the oropharyngeal cavity and gastrointestinal tract in adults and pediatric patients aged 4 months or more.

Active substances: 20 mg miconazole nitrate

Miconazole has an antifungal activity against dermatophytes and common yeasts and an antibacterial activity against certain cocci and gram-positive bacilli. Its activity is based on inhibiting the ergosterol biosynthesis in fungi and altering the composition of other lipids that make up the membrane, causing the death of fungal cells.

Posology and method of administration:

Oropharyngeal candidiasis - Children from 4 months to 24 months: 1.25 ml (1/4 measuring spoon; equivalent to approximately 25 mg) of gel, applied four times a day after meals. Each dose should be divided into smaller portions and the gel should be applied to the affected areas with a clean finger. The gel should not be applied to the throat, due to the possibility of suffocation. The gel should not be swallowed immediately and should remain in the mouth as long as possible. Adults and children older than 2 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 measuring spoon; equivalent to approximately 50 mg) of gel four times a day after meals. The gel should not be swallowed immediately and should remain in the mouth as long as possible. Treatment should continue for at least a week after the symptoms disappear. In case of oral candidiasis, dental prostheses should be removed at night and brushed with an oral gel.

Candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract - The gel can be used in infants (≥ 4 months), children, and adults with difficulty swallowing the tablets. The dosage is 20 mg per kg of body weight per day, administered in 4 divided doses. The daily dose should not exceed 250 mg (10 ml oral gel) four times a day. Treatment should continue for at least a week after the symptoms disappear.

According to the legislation in force, medicines not subject to medical prescription in Portugal can only be delivered in the municipalities of Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos, Porto, Santo Tirso, Trofa, Valongo and Vila do Conde. This limitation does not apply to shipments to other Member States of the European Union.
