Apitraz are strips for bee hives indicated in the treatment of external parasitosis caused by Varroa destructor, sensitive to Amitraz.

Active Substance: Amitraz 500 mg

Amitraz is a parasiticide belonging to the insecticidal group of formamidine.

The mode of action of amitraz is neurotoxic. The main mechanism of action is the inhibition of octopaminergic receptors in the Central Nervous System (CNS) of ectoparasiticides, inducing an increase in neuronal activity, abnormal behavior, detachment and death.

Posology and route of administration:

Use in hives. Place 2 strips per hive (1 g apitraz per hive), placing them between 2 frames. Place the strips between the marks where the bees show the most activity. Place the strips so that the bees have free access to both flaps while maintaining the space of the bees.

Type of hive:

  • Dadant hives, place a strip between the third and fourth frames and the other between the seventh and eighth frames.
  • Layens hives, place a strip between the fifth and sixth frame and another between the ninth and tenth frame.

Remove the strips after 6 weeks. The strips should not be cut.

Precautions and application schedule: The veterinary medicine should be used in times of low beekeeping in the hive. In addition, the veterinary medicinal product should be applied when the bees are still active, for example before the bees go into hibernation. The exact time of each stage can vary between the different climatic zones. In addition, breeding levels and climatic conditions must be considered before applying the product.
