Zovirax 50mg/g Cream is used to treat the early signs and symptoms of recurrent cold sores to reduce the progression of cold sores episodes to ulcerative lesions in immunocompetent adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older).

Active substances: 50 mg/g of acyclovir and 10 mg/g of hydrocortisone.

Acyclovir is a highly active in vitro antiviral against herpes simplex viruses (HSV) types I and II and Varicella zoster. Toxicity to host mammal cells is low. Hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid that exerts a number of immunomodulatory effects. When applied topically, its main role is to control various inflammatory skin diseases.

Posology and method of administration:

Adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and over): Zovirax Duo should be applied five times a day for 5 days, (eg at approximately 3-4 hour intervals, omitting nighttime application). Treatment should be started as soon as possible, preferably immediately after the appearance of the first signs or symptoms. At each application, a sufficient amount of cream should be applied to cover the affected area including the outer margin of the lesions, if any. Treat for 5 days. If lesions are still present after 5 days after completing treatment, users should be advised to consult a physician.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
