Levodonna 1.5mg is indicated as emergency contraception up to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse or in case of failure of a contraceptive method.

Active substances: levonorgestrel.

At the recommended dose, levonorgestrel is thought to work primarily by preventing ovulation and fertilization if intercourse took place in the pre-ovulatory phase, when the likelihood of fertilization is greatest. It can also cause changes in the endometrium that prevent the egg from implanting. Levodonna is not effective once the egg implantation process has started.

Dosage and method of administration:

A tablet should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within the first 12 hours and no later than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. If vomiting occurs within three hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately. Levodonna can be used at any time during the menstrual cycle, unless menstrual bleeding is delayed. After using emergency contraception, it is recommended to use a local barrier method of contraception (eg condom, diaphragm, spermicide, pessary) until the next menstrual period. The use of Levodonna does not contraindicate the continuation of regular hormonal contraception. There is no relevant use of Levodonna in children of prepubertal age for the indication of emergency contraception. Levodonna is not recommended in children. Levodonna is for post-menarcheal women only. There are limited data available in post-menarcheal women under the age of 16 years.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients.

If in doubt or if symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
