Cumbran 1.5mg is a drug for emergency contraception up to 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse or in case of contraceptive failure.

Active substance: 1.5 mg levonorgestrel.

The primary mechanism of action is the inhibition and/or delay of ovulation through the suppression of the lutein hormone (LH) peak. Levonorgestrel interferes with the ovulation process if given before the LH surge occurs. Levonorgestrel has no emergency contraceptive effect when administered after this phase of the cycle.

Posology and method of administration:

Treatment consists of administering a pill. The effectiveness of this method of emergency contraception is greater the faster it is taken after unprotected or unprotected sexual intercourse. Therefore, the tablet should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours after unprotected or unprotected sexual intercourse, up to a maximum of 72 hours (3 days).

Cumbran 1.5mg can be administered at any time during the menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within three hours of taking a tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately.

After using an emergency contraceptive, it is recommended to use a local contraceptive method (condom, spermicide, cervical cone) until the next period begins. The use of Cumbran 1.5mg does not prevent you from continuing to take regular hormonal contraceptives.

The repeated administration of Cumbran 1.5mg during the same menstrual cycle is not advisable as it contributes to an undesirable hormonal overload with possible serious disturbances in the menstrual cycle. Women who repeatedly take emergency contraceptives should be advised to choose a regular long-acting method of contraception.
