Mucavex 1.6mg/ml Syrup 200ml

Mucavex is indicated as a mucolytic adjunct to the antibacterial treatment of respiratory infections in the presence of bronchial hypersecretion.

Active substance : bromhexine hydrochloride.

Bromhexine has the pharmacodynamic ability to decrease mucus viscosity and stimulate ciliated epithelium activity, allowing increased mucociliary clearance.

Dosage and method of administration:

Pediatric population: Children over 12 years: 5 ml (1 full measuring spoon) 3 times a day, up to a maximum of 30 ml (equivalent to 48 mg of bromhexine) daily. Children from 6 to 12 years: 2.5 ml (1 measuring spoon measured up to the 1/2 mark or up to the 2.5 ml mark), 3 times a day, up to a maximum of 10 ml (equivalent to 16 mg of bromhexine) per day. Children from 2 to 6 years: 1.25 ml (1 measuring spoon measured up to the 1/4 mark or up to the 1.25 ml mark), 3 times a day, up to a maximum of 5 ml (equivalent to 8 mg of bromhexine) per day. Mucavex should only be given to children under 2 years of age under medical supervision. Adult Population: 5ml (1 full measuring spoon), 3 times a day. At the start of treatment, it may be necessary to increase the total daily dose, up to a maximum of 30 ml (2 measuring spoons, 3 times a day, equivalent to 48 mg of bromhexine) in adults.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients suffering from gastroduodenal ulcer.
