Molaxole Powder for Oral Solution is indicated for the treatment of chronic constipation. Resolution of fecal impingement, defined as refractory constipation with fecal burden from the rectum and/or colon, confirmed by physical examination of the abdomen and rectum.

Active substance(s): Macrogol 3350; Sodium chloride; Potassium chloride; Sodium bicarbonate.

Macrogol 3350 works through its osmotic action in the intestine, which induces a laxative effect. Macrogol 3350 increases stool bulk, which triggers colonic motility via neuromuscular pathways. The physiological consequence is an improvement in the propulsive colonic transport of soft stools and the facilitation of defecation. Electrolytes combined with macrogol 3350 are replaced along the intestinal (mucosal) barrier by serum electrolytes and excreted in fecal water with no gain or loss of sodium, potassium or water.

Dosage and method of administration:

Chronic constipation - Adults: 1-3 sachets daily in divided doses. The recommended dose for most patients is 1-2 sachets a day. Depending on the individual response, 3 sachets per day may be required. A treatment period for chronic constipation normally does not exceed two weeks, although it can be repeated if necessary. For prolonged use, the lowest effective dose should be administered. Children: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Fecal impact - Adults: 8 sachets per day, which must be consumed within 6 hours. The treatment period for fecal impaction usually does not exceed 3 days. Children: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Method of administration: Each sachet must be dissolved in 125 ml of water. For use in case of fecal impaction, 8 sachets can be dissolved in 1 liter of water.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. Intestinal perforation or obstruction, due to structural or functional disturbances of the intestinal wall, ileus and severe inflammatory conditions of the intestinal tract, such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and toxic megacolon.
